Also, I think the death
Also, I think the death certificate has the birth year wrong. Here's a couple of censuses that make him 10 yrs younger:

Thanks for the image Kathie!
Thanks for the image Kathie! And good heavens! Whoever decided that it was a good idea to re-write the informaiton on the death certificate made it incredibly difficult to read.
Ann - Are you in contact with any Ervin males from your family?
W.D.Ervin
Amy and Kathie--no I'm not in contact with any Ervin at this time. My Mother was an only child of Clifford M. Ervin, son of William Daniel. And the Nona Ervin mentioned in the 1920 census was my grandmother, born in 1884, married in 1906. I don't know how this census got so boggled up! But it did. Mother was born in 1911, so whoever may have been thinking of her, plus missing the birth date by several years. I have no idea.
I have a better copy of the death record than the one posted, so I'll try to do that tomorrow. Where did this one come from? The one I have came from the Meigs Co. Health Dept. in 1995.
The Civil War records I have for William indicate near the same birth year, 1832-34, which seems to fit family information, and Bible records.
W.D.Ervin 1920 census
Actually, my grandmother's name was Nona Faye, not Nona M. (she was Willliam's daughter-in-law) and Mother's name was Carolyn Louise; even if they missed it by 3 years, as Mother was born in 1911, it's still the wrong name. Some one was not feeling well when the census taker came by!
I seriously don't think
I seriously don't think William knew how old he was. Here's the 1900 census, where he actually lists birth month and year as Aug 1828:
1900 United States Federal Census
Home in 1900: Clinton, Vinton, Ohio
Residence : Hamden Village, Vinton, Ohio
Household Members: Name Age
William D Ervin 72
Margarett Ervin 39
Clifford M Ervin 19
Norma E Ervin 17
John C Ervin 15
James G B Ervin 13
Carl H Ervin 10
Eva Ervin 8
Esther Ervin 5
And in 1880 he was born in 1838:
Home in 1880: Clinton, Vinton, Ohio
Household Members: Name Age
Wm. Irwin 42
Margarett Irwin 19
Clara D. Irwin 12
Wm. Irwin 10
Edward Irwin 8
Chas. Irwin 4
Benson Irwin 1
And here's Daughter Edith's death certificate, where she lists her parents as being born in Lawrence Co, Ohio. Were you already aware that Maggie's maiden name was Kisor?
Name: Edith E. Collins
Death date: 27 Aug 1943
Death place: Pomeroy, Meigs, Ohio
Birthdate: 18 Apr 1898
Birthplace: Dundas, Ohio
Age at death: 45 years 4 months 9 days
Gender: Female
Marital status: Divorced
Occupation: Taxi Operator
Residence: Pomeroy, Meigs
Burial date: 1943
Burial place: Pomeroy
Cemetery name: Beach Grove
Spouse's name: Frank Collins
Father's name: W. D. Erwin
Father's birthplace: Laurence Co., Ohio
Mother's name: Margaret Kyser
Mother's birthplace: Laurence Co., Ohio
I think you did say that you already have the marriage record for William and Maggie (Margaret):
MAGGIE KISER
Spouse: WILLIAM ERVIN
Marriage: 29 JAN 1879 Vinton, Ohio
And then Maggie's death certificate:
Name: Margaret Ervin (indexed as Esuin)
Death date: 10 Feb 1934
Death place: Portsmouth, Scioto, Ohio
Birthdate: 8 Jan 1860
Birthplace: unknown
Age at death: 74 years 1 month 2 days
Gender: Female
Marital status: Widow
Race or color: white
Residence: Portsmouth, Ohio
Cemetery name: Middleport Hill Cem.
Spouse's name:
Father's name: Jacob Kaiser
Father's birthplace: unknown
Mother's name: Sarrah Rice
Mother's birthplace: unknown
Informant: Crystal Ervin
I think this must be Maggie's family in the 1870 census:
Name: Margaret Kisser
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1860
Age in 1870: 10
Birthplace: Ohio
Home in 1870: Milton, Jackson, Ohio
Race: White
Gender: Female
Household Members: Name Age
Jacob Kisser 49
Sarah Kisser 35
Amanda Kisser 16
Julia Kisser 14
Margaret Kisser 10
Mary Kisser 8
Isabelle Kisser 5
John Kisser 3
Interestingly, she is the only child of these parents whose death certificate lists mother as Sarah Rice. John, Julia, and Nellie's death certs say Sarah Brooks. (Ohio has death records from 1909-1953 online.)
Sharon - Interesting on the
Sharon - Interesting on the Kisor connection. Also, here is a cleaner copy of William D. Ervin's Death Certificate. Remember Dorothy? Her line was all a mess and had many Williams in it...I wonder if this couldn't be a part of her line?
Dorothy?
could you clue me in on Dorothy?
Ann
Kiser/Kisor
Maggie spells her name KISER in the Widow's Dleclaration. Aslo states that she was born 8 Jan 1863 in Jackson County.
Her marriage certificate also uses that spelling.
The informant in Maggie's death certificate is Crystal Ervin of New Boston O. Crystal would be Maggie's grand daughter. Crystal's father is James, my grandfather Clifford's brother. I will publish the children of WDE later this week.
Dorothy Morgan. She was a
Dorothy Morgan. She was a lady who had a William Ervin in her line who lived around Dundas, Ohio. Do any of these names ring a bell with you? Morgan, McMannis, or Mollihan?
Dorothy Morgan
W.D.Ervin lived in Dundas, Vinton, Ohio, but none of those surnames sound familiar.
