-Can you tell me more about the DNA project re: Francis Erwin of Gallia County? I believe I am a direct descendant on my father's side. Also may have info requested by Sue Erwin Dew in her query re: Thomas Benton Erwin. Thank you.
Hi Bill, The DNA project
Hi Bill,
The DNA project that we submit to is the CLAN IRWIN SURNAME DNA STUDY and the test kits are handled by Family Tree DNA. Through this relationship, we obtain special group-rate pricing compared to the normal pricing FamilyTreeDNA offers.
The original purpose of the testing, as it related our specific group, was to learn where my Samuel Ervin came from and who Owen Ervin's siblings might be. To do this, we needed descendants from some of the other Ervin/Erwin/Irwin/Irvin families, that we find living in the southeastern portion of Ohio from the late 1700's through the 1800's, to be DNA tested.
So far, the results have both confirmed some family relationships, and disproven others. Since Gallia county neighbors Athens, Jackson, and Vinton counties, where my Ervin line was living, it made sense to include the Erwin family to see if there could be a family connection between them.
I honestly do not think that a match will be found, but the possibility exists. If no DNA matches are found from Steve's testing, then we can at least eliminate the Erwin line, and that could be just as effective for us.
Sounds like you are a cousin to Steve, so if you'd like I can put him in touch with you.
Thanks for writing!
Amy

Amy, Thanks for the quick reply. If things change and you need another volunteer for the DNA testing, please contact me. I would appreciate it if you would connect me with Steve Erwin via my e-mail. Bill Erwin
