JAMES H. ERVIN - James H Ervin of Belvidere, IL, formerly of Huntley, IL. He was born in Lexington, TN on June 19, 1937, the son of James and Mary Ervin. He died peacefully October 6, 2014, surrounded by his family.
He worked, owned and operated Fox Valley Fence of Elgin for 24 years. He then farmed in Huntley and Belvidere until his retirement in 2000. He currently owned J & M Storage.
Survived by his wife, Mary Ellen (McCullough) Ervin, whom he married December 24, 1955; children, Ellen (Bob) Carpenter, James (Linda) Ervin, and Jay (Mandi) Ervin; grandchildren, Kathryn (Jillian) Carpenter-Smith, Timothy Carpenter, Samuel Carpenter, Hunter Ervin, Tanner Ervin, Colton Ervin, Terace (Sergio) Cobian; great-grandson, Kayden Cobian; sister, Connie (Bud) Shanks; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
He was a Member of the First Congregational Church of Huntley for 34 years, where he was a Trustee and helped in many events. He loved delivering "Meals on Wheels". He was a Little League coach for many years from beginning levels to travel leagues. He coached 4H softball that went on to take 1st place in state. He deeply loved his family, grandkids, sporting events, golf, auctions, tractors, playing cards and wintering in Florida.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ervin; father, James Ervin; and sisters, Betty McNair and Carolyn Price.
Services from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, October 19th, at the Hoffman House, 7550 East State St., Rockford, IL, 815-397-5800, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. Memorials may be made to the family in James Ervin's name to be distributed to local children's needs and charities to be named at a later date.
